Transfers

Image
Just adding some extra photos to keep as a record of my experience while in Germany.  Stay tuned though as I will definitely have more to add next Monday in my new city of Chemnitz. Hi!  Today is transfers day, which means for missionaries every six weeks you either stay where you are or head to a new city.  Sometimes you can stay where you are, but you get a new companion.  I am heading to a new city and I am getting a new companion.  I am heading to the city of Chemnitz which is an hour southeast and my companion Elder Wandtke is heading to Hamburg.  In the photo with us is Marc.  Marc lives near Leipzig and has a special love for the missionaries as he has worked with them in some capacity over the last several years.  Marc was really awesome at helping me expand my usage of the German language by working with me over the last several weeks. Thanks, Marc for all your help! My mom thieved these photos from Marc to help me remember all the great ...

This week has been great and I have been able to see the hand of the Lord in my life through a couple of miracles. Last week we went to our friend Romeo's store to meet with him and read from the Book of Mormon, however, he wasn't there. When we called him he said ...

Week 8 Leipzig

Image
Sorry everyone, looks like Elder Rothaermel was too busy to send a letter this week. I can tell you he had a really great week.  They were super busy all week long.  Earlier in the week, they had an opportunity to meet with a member from the other ward in town who helped them with their German language skills.  They also helped someone move from one apartment to another. They met with a couple of people interested in the church and were invited over to some members' house from their ward (a ward is a term used for the congregation and a ward is based on a geographical area on a map) for dinner.  They were stoked about dinner because it was a taco dinner.  We were able to talk with him multiple times this week because of birthdays in our family.  I know he enjoys getting emails from all of you and mail, so keep it up!   -Sister Rothaermel WinstonRothaermel@missionary.org Elder Winston Rothaermel 15 Blochmannstrasse Leipzig, Germany 04105

Week 7 Herbst im Leipzig

Image
Hey Guys!! This week has been pretty slow since we didn't have many appointments. We mostly spent our time studying the scriptures (The word of God: The Bible and the Book of Mormon) and improving our language skills.  The weather has been absolutely delightful the whole week with clear skies and temperatures in the seventies. Whenever we want to get out of the house we usually go to the city center where there are a few different parks. On Saturday we went to a Flea Market by Red Bull Arena to get some produce for cheap, and then we walked along the river until we got Clara-Zetkin Park, which is massive and would be a great spot for a long run. Yesterday we went to Church and then the Stake President's family invited us over for lunch. They made us Schnitzel with, potatoes, mushroom sauce, rot kraut, and mixed veggies. It was all sooo good and It was a blast hanging out with them.  Before we left I gave a spiritual thought. I told them how I thought it was interesting that wh...

Adventures in Zwickau! Change allows us to Grow! Week 6

Image
Hey Guys!! This week has been quite eventful, to say the least. On Tuesday we met up with a friend from Venezuela and helped him with his German homework. Then we met up with this guy named Mohamed Ali who sat down and taught us about Islam and it was quite interesting to learn how similar our religions are. He was very nice and gave my companion a Quran to keep. On Wednesday we got to meet up with a friend of my Grandmother. She was so sweet and It was a blast hanging out with her. She bought us lunch and then we went to the Grassi museum where we viewed a gallery on instruments and another on furniture. After saying goodbye to her we met up with a friend for a little. We went with him to the store where he was returning his plastic bottles, and as we were in line for the register, this man behind us started cursing at my companion and me. We decided to ignore him but as we were leaving the shopping center he followed us and continued being hostile. So, that's the story of the fir...
